We were delighted to be the concluding destination on the Lewes Light trail 2017. Thanks to dedication and creativity by the wonderful designer Karen van Creveld, during the three-night festival the church referenced ideas of remembrance and provision for those outcast by Society: the modern-day lepers.
Lighting techniques deployed by Karen included backlighting of the stained-glass windows, Gobo projections onto the South walls of St Thomas’, including a most realistic ‘extra’ window depicting Archbishop Thomas Becket, and no fewer than 1,000 mini candles around the ancient building’s perimeter.
Additionally, visitors were able to light their own candle, complete with a personal message of remembrance, and add it to the illumination.
The entire was a hit with young and old alike, with many saying it was the most spectacular display of the whole event.
